Llanfyllin Group Practice Update

Attendance : Juliet Sagar, Mel Plant, Kate O’Dwyer
Pharmacy
An update was received on the re-establishment of pharmacy services. Four applicants are expected to
bid, followed by a tender process, securing premises, and fit-out. An opening in early April was
confirmed as unrealistic, with June/July being the likely timeframe. Walk-in prescriptions will not be
possible; advance ordering will be required.
Primary Care Funding
The Practice advised that current funding arrangements are not sustainable for a large, rural service area
of approximately 12,000 patients. Reductions in historic funding streams and the withdrawal of recent
support have placed services at risk. Support previously provided by Powys Teaching Health Board has
been withdrawn, with no long-term commitment from Welsh Government. Options discussed included
potential closure of branch surgeries or handing back the contract.
