Llanfyllin works best when residents help shape it. There are lots of ways to get involved, whether you have five minutes, a practical skill, a big idea, or you just want to stay informed.
Quick ways to take part
Attend a Town Council meeting
Full Town Council meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month (except August). 18:45 at The Public Institute, Llanfyllin.
- Meetings are held in public and you are welcome to attend.
- There is usually a public participation item where residents can raise local matters.
- If you want something discussed, you can request it for a future agenda.
Contact your councillors
Councillors are local volunteers. If you have a question, suggestion, or concern, you can contact a councillor directly or email the Clerk for formal queries.
- For service issues, include the location and any photos.
- For suggestions, tell us what the outcome should be.
- For urgent risks, contact emergency services first.
Have your say on consultations
From time to time the Council runs local consultations or invites feedback on proposals and priorities. This helps us understand what matters most to residents.
- Check the notices page for current consultations and deadlines.
- Send feedback by email, or attend a meeting to speak in person.
- Where relevant, we share results and next steps in minutes and updates.

Join a volunteering activity
If you want hands-on involvement, volunteering is a practical way to improve Llanfyllin quickly.
- Litter picking and tidy-up sessions
- Planters, green spaces, and biodiversity projects

Suggest a project
Have an idea that would improve the town? Send it in. The clearer the idea, the easier it is to explore.

Become a councillor
Standing for election
Town councillor elections are normally held every five years, with the next scheduled elections due in 2027. You must be at least 18 years old and meet eligibility criteria, such as living or working in the area.
Co-option to fill a vacancy
If a vacancy occurs between elections it is advertised. If no election is called within the required timeframe, the Council may fill the seat by co-option through a formal process.
What does the role involve?
Town councillors are unpaid volunteers. The role involves reading papers, attending meetings, listening to residents, and helping shape decisions on local amenities, facilities, events, and planning matters.
- Time commitment varies, depending on meetings and committee work.
- You do not need to be an expert. Training and guidance are available.
- Good councillors are curious, fair, and willing to listen.
